It is a vast garden of 800 hectares, and if this garden is included, it will be the largest castle in the world. The garden is divided into a number of sections, each with a beautiful symmetry, and it is said that Louis XIV himself checked and made modifications during construction. If you try to see everything, you won’t have enough time, so we recommend that you limit your visit to the important points. Every year on weekends from April to October (Tuesdays are added from the end of May to the end of June), you can see the Grand Fountain Festival, a spectacle where the water from the fountain moves in time with music. It is mainly held at each fountain in the garden from 11:00 to 12:00 and from 15:30 to 17:00.

★Go down stairs and enter into the labyrinth. You find a fountain and turn left to go to Basin of Saturn. Then go to the second route from the right hand. It takes 20 minutes by walk.

Originally built for Louis XV and Madame de Bombadour, it became Marie Antoinette’s favorite residence. The architecture incorporates the Rococo style, and although the exterior looks modest enough to be called a palace, the interior is luxurious and offers a glimpse into Marie Antoinette’s life. The colors are more muted than those at Versailles because Marie Antoinette was tired of living in a palace and lived here seeking solace.

★Go to the behind of the Petit Trianon as far as the lake. It takes 15 minutes.

⑧The Queen’s Hamlet

Le Hameau de la Reine

Time required: 40 min

Admission fee: 12 euros (include ⑥ and ⑦ )
Paris Museum Pass is available

Opening hour: noon – 6 h 30 pm

Although it is a rustic rural village that is not suitable for a palace, it was created so that Marie Antoinette could enjoy a pseudo-rural life with her children. It is a simple building, but the interior is very luxurious, and the lookout tower feels more like a gorgeous palace than a rural village.

★Return to the Palace of Versailles. The next destination is on the route. It takes 15 minutes.

⑨Temple of Love

Temple de l’Amour
