Although you can visit this town by walk from Avignon, you should take a bus. Take a bus of the line 5 bound for Villeneuve at Avignon station or 26 bound for Roquemaure at the bus stop of Post Avignon.

This tower was built in the late 13th century by Philip IV, known as the King of Beauty, as a watchtower facing Avignon on the opposite bank. The interior has three floors, with special exhibitions held on the first floor and a view from the observation deck on the third floor.

This fortress was built by order of Philip IV, King of Beauty, to guard the Papal Palace in Avignon and protect the country’s borders. There was once a city and a prison within the wide walls, but now only remnants remain. There is a beautiful garden in the Saint-Andre Chapel within the grounds, and the reason for building the fort was to protect this area. You can also climb to the top of the castle walls and enjoy the expansive views.
★Go to Bourg Saint-André St and turn left to go to Bugade Impasse when you find a sigh “Chartreuse”. It takes 15 minutes.

Originally built as a Benedictine monastery in the 14th century, it is now used as a cultural center. Like a former monastery, artists reside in this building and create and display various works. You can also tour the monastery and see the chapel and well kiosk in the courtyard.

Pierre de Luxembourg, who inherited the original residence of the Pope, turned it into a museum. Inside the mansion, there are mainly religious-related paintings and sculptures on display, some of which depict Fort Saint-Andre. The highlight is “The Coronation of the Virgin,” which is said to be a masterpiece and was painted at the time of the Pope’s death in a Benedictine monastery.

This is a Gothic style church built in the 14th century. Its distinctive feature is that the clock tower built in 1362 is shaped like a fortress. The altar inside is richly decorated, and the top is decorated with three paintings, including a figure of Jesus hanging on a cross. You can also see other paintings whose originals are on display at the Louvre.
