【Castle description】
It’s one of popular castles in Loire region. Although François 1st constructed the castle as a palace for the hunting, he hasn’t stayed so long time. But it’s the biggest castle in this region. The land area is 5,440 ha. As there is no train station, you need participate in a tour or use a shuttle bus from Blois.

Access
If you would like to visit the castle in a tour, you can register at the tourist information center in Tours. If you visit by bus, there is a shuttle bus which goes to Chambord, Cheverny and Beauregard from the parking of Blois train station. It takes 30 minutes.

③Chambord Castle★Go to a path in front of the castle to see the castle entirely. When you return, visit a church on the right hand.
④Saint-Louis Church★Go back to the bus stop with the same route. It takes 5 minutes by walk.

③Chambord Castle

This castle is said to be a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture and was built by Francis I. Since it was built for hunting purposes, it was only actually occupied for 72 days during the 32-year reign of King Henry II and Louis XIV. The castle is 56 meters high and has 426 rooms, incorporating Italian elements favored by Francis I, including a double spiral staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci. There are four large rooms on each floor surrounding a central double spiral staircase, and an annex that connects to two other buildings. In each room, you can see exhibits such as royal furniture, furnishings, crowns, thrones, cloaks, etc., and learn about the elegant lifestyle of the aristocrats. If you climb to the top of the castle, you can see the structure of the roof clearly and be overwhelmed by its scale.

④Saint-Louis Church

This neo-Renaissance style church was built in 1666 by order of Louis XIV. Although it is a small church with few stained glass windows, the ceiling is decorated to look like a starry sky and is beautiful. The tapestry contains the wishes of Louis XIII.
