【Start】
①Poitiers Station

★Traverse the street in front of the station and go up stairs. Then, go to Arthur Ranc St. When you arrive at the crossroad, go to Henri Pétonnet St as far as a square. It takes 15 minutes by walk.

②Court Palace

★Go to Palais St and turn right at the first crossroad. It takes 5 minutes.

★Go straight on Tête Noire St in front of the tourist information center for 5 minutes.

★Continue to walk on the street by the dead end.

★Turn right and go to Chaîne St as far as Montierneuf Square. It takes 10 minutes.

⑦St-Jean Montierneuf Church

★Go back to the tourist information center with the same route. It takes 15 minutes.

【The south route (green line on the map) 】

★Go to Marché Notre Dame St and go to the right street at a forked road. Then, turn left at the dead end to go to Gambetta St. It takes 5 minutes.

⑧St-Porchaire Church

★Continue to walk on the street and turn right at the dead end. Then, turn left at the end. It takes 15 minutes.

⑨St-Hilaire Church

★Go to Doyenné St and turn left at the dead end. Go straight as far as Maréchal-Leclerc Square. It takes 20 minutes.

⑩City Hall

★Go to Grandes Ecoles St from the square. As you return to the street where you have already passed, turn right and go back to the tourist information center. It takes 10 minutes.

【The east route (orange line on the map) 】

★Go to Scévole de Sainte-Marthe St behind the church and turn left at the dead end. Go down Cathédrale St for 10 minutes.

This is a church in the center of town. It is notable for its distinctive spire and incorporates a Romanesque style. The pillars and ceiling are also decorated, and you can even see Joan of Arc in the stained glass. Each pillar has a different decoration, making it very impressive.

This is an unusual church with a long distance from the gate to the church. It’s as big as a cathedral and made of bricks up to the ceiling. The stained glass windows are simple, with pictures displayed beneath the windows instead.

This small church on the outskirts of town is one of the pilgrimage sites and is registered as a World Heritage Site. It has an unusual structure in that the altar is on the second floor, and it is famous for its Romanesque murals and pillar carvings called “The Death of Saint Hilaire”.


★Go to Doyenné St and turn left at the dead end. Go straight as far as Maréchal-Leclerc Square. It takes 20 minutes.

The church has a simple impression as there are almost no stained glass decorations. However, if you look closely, you can see many finely crafted items such as murals and items related to Joan of Arc.

This baptistery is said to be the oldest in France. Once inside, you can feel the history and see the frescoes. There are many stones lined up on the floor, so you can’t feel the atmosphere of a chapel.
