Lyon Cityscape

Region Description

This region in central France, bordering Switzerland, has long been used as a key point on trade routes with the Mediterranean and Italy, and has been an influx of culture and food. As a result, Lyon is known as the “city of gastronomy” and has many specialties. In addition, cheese dishes are famous in the area where the Duchy of Savoie was located near the Alps. It is also an area where cities such as Lyon, Vienne, and Valence developed thanks to the Rhône River, one of France’s four major rivers.

Specialty in Rhône-Alpes

Lyon, the city of gastronomy, is located there, so the food in this region is richer than in other regions. You won’t be able to eat all the specialties during your short stay, such as France’s highest quality Bresse chicken, Beaujolais Nouveau, which is famous in Japan, and cheese dishes from near the Alps. The area is also characterized by the remains of ancient Roman ruins.
