This cathedral symbolizes Bern and was built on the site of a former chapel as a new hope for the city after it was burned down in a fire in the early 15th century. The cathedral’s spire, which took 472 years to complete, is the tallest in Switzerland at about 100m. At the entrance, more than 200 sculptures depict the “Last Judgment,” and the scenes of heaven and hell are clearly reproduced. The interior is in the Gothic style, and the pattern on the ceiling looks like ivy. You can also climb the spire by stairs for a panoramic view of the city.

Enjoy Bern’s specialties!
Bern has a specialty dish called Bernerplatte. It is a Western-style oden-like dish made by sauerkraut stewed together with ham, sausages, and vegetables. I had it at a restaurant in the old town.
