City description

Jungfrau is an Alpine mountain with an altitude of 4,158m, and is the highest peak in the surrounding mountain range. You can take a train to the top of the mountain, and Jungfrau Station at the top is said to be the highest station in Europe. The top of the mountain is so cold that there is permanent snow, so you must wear thick clothes even in summer. There are two routes, but here we will introduce the route where you take the mountain train from Interlaken East Station to Lauterbrunnen Station, take the Jungfrau Railway from Kleine Schadegg Station to the summit station, and then stop at Grindelwald from Kleine Schadegg Station and return to Interlaken Ost Station.

Here you transfer to the Jungfrau Railway. Tickets can be purchased at the station, but as all seats are reserved, they may be sold out. Tickets can also be purchased from tourist information offices in other towns or from websites, so it is best to prepare in advance. ⑥Jungfrau

Jungfraujoch

Jungfraujoch

Time required: 2 h

Admission fee: 0 CHF

This is the summit of Jungfrau. The station is inside the tunnel, so follow the directions. Climb the stairs to the top and you’ll reach the observation deck. In addition to the observation deck, you can actually go outside and walk, but even though it’s summer, there is snow on the ground, so it’s important to take precautions against the cold, and you need to be careful because the ground is slippery. There are also explanations of the ice tunnel and the history of the tunnel’s excavation, restaurants, and souvenir shops. There is also a specialty shop for Lindt, a Swiss chocolate manufacturer. If the weather is good, you can see the glacier, but it is easily affected by the weather, so it depends a lot on luck.
