This park was developed on land that was originally the site of Kubota Castle during the Edo period. Completed in 1896, its name incorporates “Akita” (autumn) and “sen” (thousand), which means longevity. Within the park, there are attractions such as the Kubota Castle Front Gate, the main gate to the inner citadel, a bronze statue of Satake Yoshitaka, the last feudal lord, and Hachiman Akita Shrine, which is associated with the Akita Kanto Festival. In particular, the Osumi Yagura Tower at the back has been converted into a museum, and from the top floor you can get a panoramic view of the town.
