Barcelona
・Free visit of the Olympic Stadium
・Museum of Catalan art
【City description】
Barcelona is the second largest city in the country, located in the Catalonia region in western Spain, close to France. Facing the Mediterranean Sea, the city center is divided into wooden-patterned plots. There are many things to see, so we will introduce them in three different routes. Here, we will introduce the sightseeing route of Montjuic Hill, which offers a panoramic view of the city of Barcelona (③ on the map below). First, you go to the top of the hill, and then go down the hill while visiting museums and other attractions.

Access
There are two ways to climb Montjuic Hill: by bus or by cable car. I recommend taking the bus, as you can get off right in front of your destination and you can preview the locations of the places you will visit later.
By bus
①Subway: Plaza de España Station
Pl. Espanya
This is a station on the subway lines L1 (red), L3 (green) and L8 (pink).
★Route Time required: a few minutes
There are two Venetian bell towers in the square ⇒ Go to the bus stop just before the tower on the right
②Bus stop: Plaza de Espanya – Reina Maria Cristina Avenue
Pl Espanya – Av Reina Maria Cristina
From here, take bus number 150. You can use the same ticket within an hour of taking the subway. If you get off at the last stop, Castell, you will be dropped off very close to the castle at the top. It takes about 30 minutes.
By cable car
③Subway: Paralel Station
Paral·lel
This is an L2 (purple) or L3 (green) station.
★You can transfer to the Funicular without going outside the ticket gate. No additional ticket is required for the transfer.

Castell de Montjuïc
Time required: 1h
Admission fee: 12 euros
Opening hour: 10 am – 8 pm
(until 6 pm from November to February)
Closed: 1/1, 12/25
This is a castle at the top of Montjuïc Hill. Although it is called a castle, it is not luxurious or spectacular, but has a strong construction as a fortress. After playing an active role in many battles, it was also used as a prison and torture chamber at one time.
There are not many exhibits, and the main attraction is enjoying the view from the top of the hill. There is a chapel with no ceiling a little distance away.

★Route Time required: 20 minutes
Head down the hill towards Plaza de España.
Leave the castle and go down the hill through the park ⇒ Turn left when you reach the road ⇒ You will see the museum on your right
You can also take a gondola or bus to the gondola station.

This is the museum of Joan Miro, a 20th century Spanish painter. The museum was conceived and built by Miro himself in 1968, and is one of the largest private museums in the world. Many of the works were donated by Miro himself, and most of the exhibits are contemporary art.

It is a palace that was originally built as a government building for the Universal Expo and has been renovated into a museum. As a result, some of the palace’s decorations can be seen in the interior, such as the frescoes on the domed ceiling.
The exhibition spaces are divided by genre, such as Romanesque and Gothic, and basically exhibit works from Catalonia in that genre, but some genres, such as Renaissance, also exhibit works from other regions of Spain and Italy. Inside, you can see Art Nouveau furniture, Picasso paintings, and modern art, so you can appreciate a wide range of art genres.

Leave the museum and go down the stairs in front of you to reach the fountain.
⑨Magic Fountain of Montjuïc★

Font Màgica de Montjuïc

If you went to Montjuic by bus, you have already come to this square. It is a key transportation hub for not only the subway but also trains and airport buses. In the center of the square is a monument built for the Universal Expo, and the two Venetian bell towers were also built at that time.
