【City description】
Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, has so many tourist attractions that it’s impossible to see them all in one day. This site introduces four model courses that can be completed in half a day, so you can plan your morning and afternoon accordingly. This page introduces a course (③ on the map below) that visits two mountains in the suburbs, One Tree Hill and Mount Eden. Be sure to be physically fit as you will be doing quite a bit of walking.

【Start】①Bus Stop: The Civic

Travel by bus
★Route Time required: 5 minutes
Proceed to the park in front of the bus stop ⇒ You will see the building on your left
★Route Time required: 30 minutes
Follow the path up the hill ⇒ You will see a tower so head towards it
★Route Time required: 10 minutes
Go down the hill and continue to the park.
★Route Time required: 20 minutes
When you leave the park, turn left and go straight for a while ⇒ Cross the big intersection and you will see the bus stop

Take a bus and turn right into the town to arrive.
★Route Time required: 30 minutes
Continue in the same direction as the bus ⇒ After passing the first intersection, turn right ⇒ At the end of the road there are stairs leading up to the mountain, so go up ⇒ When you reach the road, turn left ⇒ Go up to the top of the mountain

Go down the mountain ⇒ Turn left at the roundabout ⇒ When you reach the road, turn left and you will see the bus stop.

Go to the last stop, Britomart

Take bus number 30 to Onehunga from stop E.

②Bus Stop: Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill
This is where you get off the bus.
★Route Time required: 5 minutes
Proceed to the park in front of the bus stop ⇒ You will see the building on your left
③Stardome Observatory & Planetarium◎

Time required: 1h
Admission fee: 20 NZD
Opening hour: 9h30 am – 5 pm / 6 pm – 10h30 pm
Closed: Monday night
This space museum also has a planetarium. There are several different shows throughout the day, and you can learn a lot about the universe and the constellations.

④One Tree Hill★

One Tree Hill
Time required: 15 min
Admission fee: 0 NZD
Opening hour: 7 am – 7 pm
Closed: No
This is the top of a hill with a panoramic view of Auckland city. There used to be a tree here, as the name suggests, but it was destroyed by the Maori people in protest against the government, and now only an obelisk tower remains with Maori carvings.

Go down the hill and continue to the park.
⑤Cornwall Park

Time required: 30 min
Admission fee: 0 NZD
Opening hour: 7 am – 6 pm
Closed: No
It’s a large park next to One Tree Hill. You can see sheep and cows in the park. In front of the restaurant is a museum called Acacia Cottage, which is a reproduction of a farmhouse, which you can visit for free.

When you leave the park, turn left and go straight for a while ⇒ Cross the big intersection and you will see the bus stop
⑥Bus Stop: Manukau Road
Fare: 2.80 NZD
Here you board the orange Outer Link bus.
★Route Time required: 10 minutes
Take a bus and turn right into the town to arrive.
⑦Bus Stop: Mt Eden Village
This is where you get off the bus.
★Route Time required: 30 minutes
Continue in the same direction as the bus ⇒ After passing the first intersection, turn right ⇒ At the end of the road there are stairs leading up to the mountain, so go up ⇒ When you reach the road, turn left ⇒ Go up to the top of the mountain
⑧Mount Eden★

Time required: 30 min
Admission fee: 0 NZD
This mountain was once a volcano and is one of the most popular tourist spots in Auckland. The mouth of the volcano is overgrown with grass, and scaffolding has been built around it to provide a panoramic view of the city.
★Route Time required: 30 minutes
Go down the mountain ⇒ Turn left at the roundabout ⇒ When you reach the road, turn left and you will see the bus stop.
⑨Bus Stop: Mount Eden Domain
Fare: 2.80 NZD
Take bus 27H or 27W to Britomart.

Go to the last stop, Britomart
