【Start】
①Vannes Station

★When you leave from the station, turn right. Then, go straight on Victor Hugo Avenue at the first crossroad. It takes 20 minutes by walk.

②St-Pierre Cathedral

★Enter the museum in front of the cathedral.

③La Cohue – Art Museum

★Go to Orfèveres St from the cathedral. It takes 5 minutes.

④Vannes and his wife

★Go down the slope on the right side of the intersection. There is a castle on the right hand side of the hill.

⑤Gaillard Castle

★Go down the street from the castle and turn left to go to Noé St. Then, turn right at the end. It takes 10 minutes by walk.

⑥Saint Vincent Gate

★When you arrive at the harbor, turn left to go to Alexandre le Pontois St.

⑦Helmine Castle

★Pass a bridge.

⑧Wash House of Garenne

★When you pass the bridge, turn right.

⑨Ramparts of Vannes

★Continue to walk on the street. As you arrive at St-Pierre Cathedral, go back to the station with the same route. It takes 25 minutes by walk.

It is a Gothic style cathedral made of granite. The left and right towers have different designs, the one on the left remaining from the 13th century. The interior is gray and has a solemn atmosphere, and you can see the traces of piled stones on the walls.


★Enter the museum in front of the cathedral.


③La Cohue – Art Museum

This is an art museum located in front of the cathedral. It exhibits a wide range of works, from ancient stone tools to modern art and an introduction to Brittany culture.


★Go to Orfèveres St from the cathedral. It takes 5 minutes.

The former castle has been renovated and is now used as the Vannes History Museum. Exhibits include artifacts from the Paleolithic era and items found in the colony by an adventurer from Brittany.


★Go down the street from the castle and turn left to go to Noé St. Then, turn right at the end. It takes 10 minutes by walk.


⑥Saint Vincent Gate

⑦Helmine Castle

This castle was built in the 14th century by John IV, Duke of Brittany, but was destroyed during the war. The current one was rebuilt in the 18th century. Although you cannot enter the building, its exterior and flower-filled garden are highlights. There is also a flower bed shaped like a marten, the town’s emblem.
