Albi

Check Point

【City description】

It’s a town where the famous poster artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was born. The town on the banks of the Tarn river is small but there are many red buildings in the center street. So, we can enjoy the trip while walking. The façade of the cathedral is fantastic, but you should see the interior decoration as well. The old are is registered in the World Heritage Site.

Cathedral of Albi

Cathédrale d’Albi

It is a huge church that symbolizes the town. Like the buildings in the town, it has a red exterior, but the interior ceiling is blue. In addition, there are decorations painted all over the ceiling, so you will never get tired of looking at them. Other must-sees include the Flemish-style “Last Supper” painting and France’s largest pipe organ. It is also one of my personal favorite churches.

The museum is located right next to the cathedral and is housed in what was originally a bishop’s residence called Berbie Palace. You can see not only posters of Lautrec, who was from this town, but also drawings from his childhood. The courtyard at the back of this building is also a highlight.
