It’s a small town in the Basque region. Many visitors come in this town during the summer vacation for the Atlantic beach. This is the mansion where Louis XIV stayed for over a month in 1660 to marry a Spanish princess. The wedding was held in this area, which has been embroiled in a long-standing conflict with Spain, and was a major step towards peace between the two countries. Inside, you can see Louis XIV’s stay, from his bedroom and the costumes he wore to the kitchen. The highlight is the decorated beams that allow you to look up at the ceiling, along with paintings depicting whaling at the time.

This is a building with a pink exterior facing the port. Like the Residence of Louis XIV, Marie Therese stayed there during her wedding to Louis XIV. Although the part you can visit is limited to the second floor, you can see a reproduction of what it looked like back then.

A distinctive feature of the area is that there is a bridge along the coast that connects the breakwater to the house. This is the church where Louis XIV and Marie Therese were married on June 9, 1660. For this reason, multiple layers of scaffolding have been set up inside the church along the walls so that many people can watch the ceremony. The altar is also quite luxurious, with 18 carvings of saints and other decorations inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

★Continue to walk on the street in front of the church and turn right at the sea. Go to the seaside esplanade as far as a hill. It takes 25 minutes by walk.
