City description

It is the capital of the country of the same name, surrounded by France, Germany, and Belgium. It has one of the highest per capita GDPs in the world and is home to many wealthy people. The town is a little far from the station and is located on a cliff, so you will have to cross a bridge to get there. Built on top of this cliff, it functioned as a fortified city to protect it from invasions from other countries. It is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and although the center is small, it is full of museums and other facilities that you can thoroughly enjoy on a day trip.

This cathedral was built in the 17th century and is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The interior is lined with pillars with characteristic arabesque patterns, and light shines in through stained glass windows made in the 19th and 20th centuries. Proceeding underground, you will find a chapel with light blue walls and ceilings studded with stars.

It is used as the palace and office of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. It was once the site of the Town Hall, but after it was destroyed, it was relocated and a new Flemish-Renaissance-style Grand Duke’s Palace was built. During the summer months of July and August, you can tour the palace and see the luxurious interior from floor to ceiling. There is also an unusual room with many maps decorated on the walls. This is a museum where you can learn about the history of Luxembourg in chronological order through exhibits. In the Middle Ages, there are exhibits about wars and cityscapes, and in modern times, there are exhibits about industry and the EU. The round room that recreates the old town is decorated with 360-degree pictures of the cityscape, giving it a mysterious feeling. Special exhibitions are held on the upper floors.
