It is a popular tourist city in western Belgium, and the entire city is registered as a World Heritage Site. The name of the city comes from the word “bridge”, and the city center is surrounded by rivers and there are many bridges. The former hospital is now used as an art museum. The building itself dates back to the 12th century, so it has a sense of history. It is also called the Memling Museum because it displays several works by the German painter Hans Memling. The main attraction is the “Saint Ursula’s Reliquary”, one of Belgium’s seven great treasures.

It is the tallest building in the city with a 122m high bell tower. It was built in the Romanesque style in the 12th century, but after it was destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt in the Gothic style. It has a brick exterior that blends in with the city, but the interior is chic with white and black as its main colors. The main attraction is Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child, which was donated by a merchant.

It is the oldest town hall in Flanders, in northern Belgium, and has a Gothic style. The first floor can be viewed for free, and the second floor requires a fee. In addition, the main attraction in the paid area is the Gothic Hall, which has an impressive mural depicting the history of Bruges.

This is the chapel next to the other side of the city hall. Although it is a smaller building compared to City Hall and the Free Bruges Museum, it has an unusual appearance, with the first floor in Romanesque style and the second floor in Gothic style. Holy Blood refers to the “Blood of Christ” said to have been brought back by the Crusaders during their expedition to Jerusalem. Although the interior of the chapel itself is small, it is impressive with detailed patterns and murals painted on the walls and ceiling.

This bell tower faces the Grote Markt and is registered as a World Heritage Site. Specifically, it is one of the 55 Belgian and French belfries. It is a Gothic style tower with a height of 83 meters that was completed in the 16th century. The belfry can be accessed by stairs, with 366 steps offering panoramic views of Bruges. However, since you have to climb a narrow spiral staircase, there are restrictions on entry and it can get very crowded. Therefore, you need to be creative, such as purchasing tickets online in advance or going right after the museum opens.
