【City description】
It’s a city surrounded by Moselle river and Seille river. The German has governed this city from the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century and there is a gate of German in the east of the city. There are many churches and we can admire stained glasses designed by Chagall and Jean Cocteau. In the south of the city, we can visit the Pompidou Center. It is a modern art museum and the main center is in Paris.

⑩Opera and Theatre in Metz★Return to the cathedral and go to Chanoine Collin St on the right of the tourist information center.
⑪Cour d’Or Museum★Continue to walk on the street and turn right at the end. It takes 5 minutes.
⑫Sainte-Ségolène Church★Go to Trinitaires St in front of the church and return to the center street. Then, turn left at the crossroad after Saint-Jacques Square to go straight on Tête d’Or St. It takes 20 minutes.
⑬Thress Saints Hierarques Orthodoxe Church★Continue to walk on the street and when you leave the street and arrive at an avenue, pass it.
⑭Gate of German★Go to Wad Billy St and turn left at the dead end. It takes 5 minutes.
⑮Saint-Maximin Church★Continue to walk on the street and turn right immediately to go to Saint-Etienne St. Go straight and turn left at the end. Then, turn right immediately. It takes 10 minutes.

It is a medieval tower built in 1437. It was once connected to a 7km long wall, but only this part remains today. It is rare that such an old tower is still standing.

This gate was built along with the castle wall in the 13th century and serves as the entrance to the city. It was destroyed during an invasion in the 15th century, and the current structure was rebuilt in the 19th century.

This mansion was built for King Guillaume II in the early 20th century. Due to the influence of the German military, German architectural styles were adopted. It is also a military facility, so tours are not allowed.

This is a promenade in front of the center of Metz. Colorful flowers are blooming and it feels good to take a walk. Once you reach the edge, you can see the Moselle River.

Also known as the Saint-Étienne Cathedral, this cathedral was completed in the 16th century. It is characterized by its gothic-style ocher exterior walls and green roof, but inside you can see one of the largest stained glass windows in Europe. The stained glass in the chapel behind the altar was created by Chagall, and the depiction of priests in a variety of colors is fantastic.

⑨Neuf Temple

This church is located on a small island in the Moselle River. Although neo-Romanesque architecture has been adopted, the influence of the German style, which was created under the arrangement of Guillaume II, can be seen in the background, similar to the Palace of Governance. If you look closely, the decorations on the doors and other parts have patterns and colors that you don’t see anywhere else.

The museum has an ocher exterior wall similar to the cathedral. It has been introduced since prehistoric times, and there are especially many sculptures. The building itself is also distinctive, and you can see the underground structure and ceiling paintings of the wooden building.

This Gothic church was built in the 13th century and is characterized by its two spires. Unlike the bright exterior, the interior is dimly lit due to the stained glass. Virgin Road is dyed red by the stained glass lights at the altar.
★Go to Trinitaires St in front of the church and return to the center street. Then, turn left at the crossroad after Saint-Jacques Square to go straight on Tête d’Or St. It takes 20 minutes.

The church incorporates Romanesque and Gothic styles. Unlike the exterior with its blue roof and yellow walls, the interior is made of gray stone. It is wide and has stained glass covering the entire wall on the altar side. The relics of St. Blaise remain in the church, and since he once saved a boy who had choked on a fish bone, an event is held on February 3rd to offer brioche and pray for a healthy throat.
