【Start】①Saumur Station
★As it is far from the station to the town, you should take a bus of the line 1, 30 or 35 and get off at the bus stop Centre-Ville. Then you take a bus of the line 33 or 34 and get off at the bus stop Château.
②Bus stop; Centre-Ville③Bus stop to go to the castle.

⑤Saumur Castle★Go down Dr Peton Avenue where the bus went up to go to the castle. It takes 15 minutes by walk.
⑥Temple of Saumur★Go to Païens St in front of the temple.
⑦Grènetière Tower★Return to the temple. Go to the square and turn right to go to Volney St. When you return to the bus stop Centre-Ville, turn right to go to Dacier St as far as the square. It takes 10 minutes.
⑧Saint-Pierre Church★Go to Tonnelle St in front of the church and turn left at the dead end. When you arrive at a bridge, pass it and go back to the station. As it takes 25 minutes by walk, you can take a bus at the bus stop Centre-Ville.

The ticket is 2 euros for one way and a ticket is available for the two buses for 1 hour.

Get off the bus here. When you get off the bus, there will be a road that splits into two in front of you, so if you go to the left you will see another bus stop.
③Bus stop to go to the castle.
From here, take bus number 33 or 34.

This castle stands on a hill with a contrasting blue roof and castle walls. Originally built as a fortress in the 13th century, it was later converted into a castle by the Dukes of Anjou. Inside is a museum, where you can see tapestries depicting the lives of the royal family and a collection of pottery from all over France. There is also an annex on the same premises where special exhibitions are held.
★Go down Dr Peton Avenue where the bus went up to go to the castle. It takes 15 minutes by walk.
⑥Temple of Saumur

This temple was built in the 19th century and was inspired by the Greek style. It has four pillars and a triangular symbol at the top.

⑦Grènetière Tower

This tower was built around the time of Louis XI. Originally part of the castle wall, this tower is the only one that remains. One of its characteristics is that its purpose changed over time, sometimes as a granary and sometimes as a prison.
★Return to the temple. Go to the square and turn right to go to Volney St. When you return to the bus stop Centre-Ville, turn right to go to Dacier St as far as the square. It takes 10 minutes.
⑧Saint-Pierre Church

This church was built in the 11th century. You can see the angel carvings on the front that were added to the building during repeated renovations. The interior uses not only stained glass in various colors but also paintings to convey the content of the Bible. During the French Revolution, it was used as a public meeting place and warehouse, and in the 18th century it regained its function as a church.
★Go to Tonnelle St in front of the church and turn left at the dead end. When you arrive at a bridge, pass it and go back to the station. As it takes 25 minutes by walk, you can take a bus at the bus stop Centre-Ville.
